The munthā's house — The twelfth bhāva — Vyaya

The wheel closes at Vyaya, the bhāva of expenditure and release: what is spent and let go, distant and foreign lands, retreat and seclusion, sleep and the bed, loss in its plain sense, and mokṣa in its highest. It is a dusthāna, the third of the difficult houses, yet the texts are careful to give it both faces — the same house that drains also liberates, and the tradition reads generosity, pilgrimage and final release through it as readily as leakage.
Which face shows is judged from the twelfth lord's dignity and placement, the grahas occupying the bhāva, and the aspects it receives; the computed chart beside this passage carries those facts. A well-disposed twelfth is read as wise expenditure and a capacity for solitude; affliction is read as unchosen loss. Between those readings only the computed facts arbitrate.
